The Haunting of Molly Hartley on DVD
Haunting borrows from more horror movies than we can list here and doesn’t offer much, save a solid performance by relative newcomer Haley Bennett, playing the titular Molly. In the movie, physically recovered but psychically scarred from a stab wound inflicted by her mentally ill mother, 17-year-old Molly is enrolled in a new school by her worried father (Jake Weber). She tries to adjust and even lands a cute boyfriend (Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford), but recurring nightmares and unexplained phenomena point to more woes ahead for the troubled teen. Director Mickey Liddell rings in many familiar fright-film devices, but in the absence of action, graphic gore and skin, Haunting is too bland to prove satisfying to hardcore horror fans.
Release Date set for 03/03/2009.
Upcoming horror movies to get you in the Halloween mood
Sure, it’s fun to watch scary movies any time, but the run-up to Halloween is tailor-made for good, creepy cinematic fare. Here’s what’s slithering into theaters this month:
“Quarantine”: Opens today
It’s never a good sign when something awful is happening and you’re locked in with it. TV reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) is assigned to spend a night shift with Los Angeles firefighters. They respond to a 911 call at an apartment building, where a resident is infected with a mysterious disease. Let’s just say the symptoms go beyond stuffy head and sore throat. The Centers for Disease Control quarantine the building, with a complete communications blackout. When the quarantine is lifted, all that remains is the news crew’s videotape. And little chance of getting one’s security deposit back.
Molly Hartley Goes Freestyle
Freestyle Releasing has just acquired The Haunting of Molly Hartley which they plan to give a Halloween release on more than 2,000 screens according to THR.
