His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th
He first became known to audiences on May 9, 1980. Over the course of nearly three decades and eleven films (soon to be twelve with next year’s remake), he has inspired terror in the hearts of film fans the world over. He redefined the concept of immortality and invincibility. He gave horror a new face…by not having one. His name is Jason Voorhees and this is his story.
His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th, the ultimate tribute documentary about one of horror cinema’s most enduring icons, has been acquired by Anchor Bay Entertainment, the leading horror programmer, for North American DVD distribution. It will be released as a “splatter edition” DVD on February 3, 2009. Then, on February 13th, 2009, Starz will host the broadcast premiere of the documentary – in celebration of the infamous date and its most famous posterboy. In addition, the documentary will have its World Premiere Friday, November 14 at the 31st Starz Denver Festival during The Watching Hour, the festival’s midnight film series. Ari Lehman, the “first” Jason and other special guests will be in attendance.
Amanda Righetti in Friday the 13th
Amanda Righetti was born on April 1, 1984, in Las Vegas, and she is the youngest of eight children. She is most famous for the role of Hailey Nichol on the hit FOX series “The O.C.” Amanda also has had major parts on the television shows “North Shore” and “Reunion.” She married Jordan Alan in 2005.
Actress Amanda Righetti personified the ability had by some to catch the eye of television producers with one small, recurring part and spin that into a more permanent and higher-profile success. A native of St. George, UT (and the youngest of eight children), Righetti grew up in Las Vegas, NV, and enjoyed her first taste of fame with a multi-episode run as Hailey on the Fox network’s prime-time soap opera The O.C.
Derek Mears Talks Friday the 13th At Comic Con
We got the opportunity to sit down with Derek Mears to talk about Friday the 13th at Comic Con this year. I have to honestly say this was the coolest guy we got a chance to speak with so far. He had some great stories and gave us some very good insight about the upcoming remake.. and not all of it is good.
Right off the bat he began talking about the script and what he says worries me a bit, “The way that Mark and Damian written the script there is a lot more levels to him (Jason). Where he is more of full fledged character and not just a guy running around in a hockey mask killing people. You can to one side where there is this child who is hurt and tormented and you can empathize with him with what he is going through. Read the rest of this entry »
Paramount DVD Re-Release
Re-releasing DVDs with different cover art has become common practice nowadays for studios. Somehow the folks who run the DVD department think that slapping a fresh, new cover art on the box will draw someone’s eye who might think that it’s a brand new edition of the DVD. Usually…it ain’t.
This is just such the case. DVDActive got word that Paramount will be re-releasing Event Horizon, Friday the 13th, What Lies Beneath, Red Eye, Sleepy Hollow, The Ring, and Pet Sematary. What is so cool about these covers? They’re lenticular! Those covers where if you tilt it, it will reveal a new image. This’ll cause fans to buy them. Brilliant!*
Friday the 13th, Jasons Got a Sack Mask!
Our friends at IESB were invited to visit the set of Friday the 13th the new remake by platinum dunes. I am sure our invite was lost in the mail but IESB reports in on Jason and the fact that he wont be toting a hockey mask through the entire movie, rather he will wear a SACK on his head. Oh my! They say:
Pamela Voorhees Cast in FD13 Remake
We have had a slew of casting going on with the Friday the 13th remake recently. Today Screen Geeks has learned that Nana Visitor (Babysitter Wanted) will be replacing Betsy Palmer as Ms. Voorhees. According to the site her role will not be that large and they have already taken a mold of her head.
She will be joining Derek Mears, Jared Padalecki, Willa Ford, Nick Mennell, Danielle Panabaker, Aaron Yoo and Amanda Righetti. Marcus Nispel will be directing this one for Platinum Dunes. The release date on this one is still solid and I don’t think this one will budge from its Friday the 13th release in February, 2009.
Friday the 13th Prequel Set for February 13, 2009
No official plot yet, but it’s said to reveal the origins of Jason Voorhees. The Friday the 13th Prequel is set to his screens February 13th, 2009. The CW’s Supernatural star Jared Padalecki is the first actor set to star in the film. He will play the lead, who investigates what happened at Crystal Lake.
Stunt man Derek Mears is supposedly in talks to play the new Jason Voorhees. Since there’s no official confirmation on this, we’ll have to treat it as a rumor, but either way, it seems that he’s currently the likely candidate.
Staying Power – Friday the 13th (2009)
The original 1980 movie, directed by Sean S. Cunningham is widely acclaimed for its horrifying and creative murder sequences. The well known character of Jason Voorhees only had a small part in the film, but New Line Cinema’s new Version is said to substantially expand on his character and backstory.
Terror and suspense abound in this 24-hour nightmare of blood. Camp Crystal Lake has been shuttered for over 20 years due to several vicious and unsolved murders. The camp’s new owner and seven young counselors are readying the property for re-opening despite warnings of a “death curse” by local residents. The curse proves true on Friday the 13th as one by one each of the counselors is stalked by a violent killer.
