True Blood: Truer than True

If you are a kid that grew up on vampire movies, then you understand my obsession with the HBO series True Blood starring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, and Sam Trammell. However, I knew nothing of the The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels that it was based on. The series got my attention the first season like many, but I am now getting a bit nervous about the direction the show is going.
New V Series
The news has been confirmed. “V,” the 1980s miniseries about alien lizards visiting Earth, will invade primetime once again, reports Variety.
ABC is developing a new adaptation of the franchise — which spawned a second mini and TV spinoff — written by “The 4400″ co-creator/exec producer Scott Peters. Warner Bros. TV, which was behind the original longform, is once again producing.
“Whenever I mention ‘V’ to anybody, they still have a lot of good memories about the original movie and series,” Peters said. “Everybody has that imagery of their uniforms, or the visitor eating a hamster. It’s a science fiction icon and too good to pass up.”
The original “V” served as an allegory for the Holocaust and Nazi Germany. Peters said he won’t duplicate that concept, except that the new “V” will still focus on what happens when the masses have blind faith in their leaders.
RIP Monsters HD 2003 – 2009
When the Dish Network dropped all channels owned by VOOM last year, Monsters HD took a hard hit as did its fans. Nearly a year later, the beloved horror channel is being buried six feet under. This message appeared on the channel’s official site.
“TV’s first and longest-running hi-def horror and creature feature channel will cease operations and mad experiments this month. Thanks for all the screams and support over the years. Fear not – monsters never die…they always come back!”
Our condolences to those who use to work at Monsters HD. It’s still a shame the horror community does not have a wide-reaching channel to tune in to…

CBS’ “Killer” Series Harper’s Island
CBS gets in on the horror fun with an original series of its own, and it doesn’t have a “reality” spin like a certain CW program now on the air. The show’s called Harper’s Island (we’ve mentioned it fleetingly in the early part of ’08) and at the helm is veteran stunt coordinator and director Craig R. Baxley who has spent some time in Stephen King territory with such televised fare as Storm of the Century, Rose Red and Kingdom Hospital.
Goldberg talks about Web show ‘Stream’
We’re a couple of years into the Web video revolution, but only a few truly top-hole celebrities have signed on to make online series. Whoopi Goldberg has become the latest to join that small constellation, starring in the sci-fi thriller “Stream,” which launched today on the site of distribution partner FEARNet, the purveyor of Web horror.
“Stream” is produced by Goldberg’s production company Whoop Inc.. It tells the story of a woman named Jodi Quinn, played by Goldberg, who begins to feel time’s fabric tearing in her mind, creating a rift that shuttles her between past, present and future versions of herself. It’s an innovative premise, and — in the first episode, at least — the story builds more tension than many of its less memorable Web thriller predecessors. It doesn’t hurt that Goldberg’s engaging screen presence propels the story forward.

Jodi Quinn remembers the future. Thanks to a drug she took when she was seventeen, moments from various points in Jodi’s life become intertwined, effectively letting her experience two moments at once.
Jodi has spoken with her future husband; she’s visited the psychiatric ward where she will reside in her twenties, and she has come face to face with a vision that will haunt her throughout her life.
Ultimately, Stream is about a woman who spends a lifetime wrestling with her personal demons, and gathering the strength to face her worst fears.
Stream snaps back and forth through three phases of Jodi’s life: her past as an intelligent but headstrong teen; her present in a psychiatric facility, and her future as an adult clinging to a normal life after years of tribulation.

Sam Raimi’s New Horror Reality Series
It’s “Survivor” meets “Freddy’s Nightmares. ” With “Masters of Horror” off the air, and a pending actor’s strike threatening production of movies and TV shows, I guess a horror reality TV series was inevitable.
Here’s the scoop of the new series, which features a rather attractive cast as seen above. “13 – Fear Is Real” is probably the first horror show of its kind. Sam Raimi is executive producing.
Thirteen people compete to “stay alive” as they face their deepest fears in an all-out elimination competition and scare-fest. Pitted against each other in situations straight from the horror movies, the 13 will face shocking surprises, psychological scares and lots of “beware of the dark” moments, all designed by a “mastermind” of terror. In addition to frightening them, he’ll also entice individuals to work in concert with him and against the others, creating a situation in which the 13 will not only look over their shoulders but will also never be certain who is real before them.
True Blood DVD news: Release Date for True Blood
True Blood chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps…where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin, Academy Award®-winner for “The Piano”) works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte’s. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others.
Sookie’s situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron – 173-year old Bill Compton (Steven Moyer, “Quills”) – and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other. Delivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from creator and executive producer Alan Ball (writer of Oscar-winning Best Picture “American Beauty,” creator of the Emmy Award-winning HBO series Six Feet Under), True Blood is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart – and the neck – of the Deep South
