Saw the Game

Combing the net I found a great article on Saw the video game. I am not much for video games these days, only because I am just too busy to play them. Well, I also need to get a new game console but that is another issue.

Shellshock 2: Blood Trails

ShellShock: Nam ’67, Eidos’ hyper-violent Vietnam War third person shooter. The publisher reminds us today of its existence with the debut trailer for the sequel, which gamers everywhere are calling Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, because that’s its name. Given the below-average marks the first Shellshock received, we’re not overly enthusiastic about its chances this holiday season, but at least they scored the rights to “Freebird.”War is hell, and the ShellShock franchise delivers gamers to the deepest circles of this hell in a series of action games where players must face the choices that, in the real world, have stripped away the humanity of many men and have defiled the glory of modern civilization.

Resident Evil 5 Collectors Edition Specs

Capcom’s Resident Evil 5 Collector’s Edition Exposed!

Capcom is pleased to announce the Resident Evil 5 Collector’s Edition. First teased last week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, the Collector’s Edition will be available on day one of the game shipping Friday, March 13, 2009. Available for only a limited time, gamers will be able to pre-order the collectible set starting today at the Capcom store at www.capcom.com. On launch date, the set will be available at all major retailers in North America with a price of $89.99 for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.

For fans of the highly popular series, the box set is not to be missed as it will include a host of never-before-seen collectible items not available anywhere else. All designed around RE5′s Kijuju setting and the game’s in-depth storyline, the box will include a Tricell messenger bag, Chris Redfield figurine, BSAA patch and Kijuju-inspired pendant.

Bringing the entire collection together is a custom made steel case with special art showcasing signature elements of the RE5 campaign – the Kijuju writings, ominous number five and two-player co-op. Inside the steel case is where the real action lies, with a two disc set including the game and bonus disc with additional special features. The Making of Resident Evil 5 feature, first shown at the Tokyo Game Show, will be released on the bonus disc for the first time. A digital art gallery showcasing the game’s incredible HD graphics and impressive art style and a Resident Evil Degeneration Trailer will top off the special features making a bonus disc that is a must-have for all Resident Evil devotees.

EA’s “Dead Space” raises the bar for survival-horror

Dead Space is the latest survival-horror game by Electronic Arts. While most games in this genre boast that you should “play it with the lights off”, this game is so scary it will make you want to turn them back on. The creepiness and dread of this game hasn’t really been approached before in this manner and there were times I actually had to stop playing and take a break to ease my mindfreefall from all the tension I was putting myself through. Remember the first time you played the original Resident Evil and the zombie-dogs jumped through the window? Dead Space raises the bar on fright and sends it into the stratosphere.

‘Thinking after Dark: Welcome to the World of Horror Video Games’

Totally out of my academic purview, but it’s a really neat sounding conference: The research group Ludiciné (University of Montreal), the Research Group on the Creation and Formation of Cinematographic and Theatrical Institutions (GRAFICS) (also from the University of Montreal) and the NT2 Laboratory on Hypermedia Art and Literature (University of Quebec) are hosting a conference next year (in — surprise! — Montréal) on horror games. Proposals are due by January 15, 2009, and the conference will be held from April 23 to 25, 2009. So if you’re incubating a great paper topic on horror games, or are sitting on a paper that you haven’t had an academic outlet for, here’s your chance. Sounds pretty fun! More information can be found at the website, and the full call for papers can be found beneath the jump. [via GameSetWatch]
