Nicolas Cage and the Knowing

I had the pleasure of escaping my office for a few hours and get out into the fresh air and sunshine we have been so blessed with recently. I zipped across town and decided that I would catch a flick. I had no idea what I wanted to see until I step in front of the theater, and there it was – Knowing starring Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne. Nicolas is a big screen stud and Rose is a little seen hottie, so I decided on watching Knowing since it had peaked my interest when I saw the trailer.
I won’t reveal the end to those who haven’t seen this movie yet, but it took an unexpected twist for the worst and I am not satisfied with the end result. I know what they were trying to do but once you saw it coming, you waited for the big finale and it was pretty lackluster. Maybe it’s because you figure out where the movie is going to land about half way through, and I think they got lazy with the visual effects on the latter half of the movie.
The best scene in the film is when the passenger plane crashes and Nicolas Cage is standing right next to it as it occurs! That scene had me ready for more, but nothing really compared to that the rest of the way. I think they built up the plot well for the most part, but this scene sets you up earlier on for more and they never deliver.
Nicolas Cage seems to be losing his touch with his film selection as of late. The Book of Secrets was bad, Knowing is bad, and whatever he decides to do next better be of a higher caliber than the aforementioned or he will stops losing his box office draw. And we wouldn’t want that now would we Nick.
