Halloween wouldn’t be complete without a good old-fashioned scream fest. But why worry about battling crowds at video stores when plenty of classic horror flicks are available for free online viewing?

Hulu: The video site’s “Huluween” offerings include an impressive slate of terrifying tales. Watch the flesh-hungry undead run rampant around London in 28 Days Later. Or take in campy cult classic The Toxic Avenger or 1988’s gelatinous remake of The Blob. A quick glance through Hulu’s regular collection turns up additional fright-night staples like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Blacula, Ghostbusters and more.
Joost: If creature features are your bag, head to this video site for monster movies galore. In addition to offerings like Attack of the Giant Leeches and The Devil Bat, legendary kaiju Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan make an appearance in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster.
Lycos Cinema: Replete with cheesy special effects and gratuitous bloodshed, B horror movies are an art unto themselves. Tune into Lycos Cinema for gems like Curse of the Wolf, Invitation, Witchouse 3: Demon Fire and Nosferatu. Added bonus: Social viewing features let home users send chat messages during movies, potentially turning home-bound horror freaks into a DIY Mystery Science Theater 3000 crew.
TheWB.com: Just call Warner Bros.’ new video site “TheWBoo” for the rest of the week. The site’s operators dusted off a creepy selection of television hits from the archives, including Halloween-themed episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Friends and Gilmore Girls. Also on tap: The entire series of web-only teen scream thriller Meet Me in the Graveyard.
Fearnet: Get in a quickie with on-screen masters of mayhem like Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees and Candyman during Fearnet’s 66.6 Second Film Festival. The online film fest cuts to the bloody chase and delivers hypertruncated versions of flicks like A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI, Candyman and many more.
MTV Music: Nothing screams Halloween more than watching an old-school Michael Jackson high-kick and shimmy down an abandoned alley, clad in red leather and accompanied by legions of zombies. “Thriller” — in all its unedited, 14-minute glory — is just one of the classic clips in MTV’s recently unveiled cache of music videos. Other appropriately spooky songs include Alice Cooper’s “Welcome to My Nightmare,” Cheap Trick’s “Woke Up With a Monster” or anything by creepy video specialists Tool.
