Lucio Fulci’s ‘The Beyond’ finally to DVD

Italian Master of Horror Lucio Fulci left us several genre classics, his most famous being Zombi 2. However, it is his magnum opus The Beyond that has garnered a lot of fan attention in the recent years. The film displays the trademark Italian gore as well as a solid musical score and Fulci is able to craft a fine film with a wonderfully creepy and surreal ending.

Anchor Bay had released the film onto DVD back in the early 2000s, but that DVD has been long since outta print and copies sell for a minimum as $80 on ebay. The only copy of the film people could get at a decent price ($8) is the crappy US R rated release (roughly 10 minutes is removed) dubbed Seven Doors of Death.

To save us from this fate, Grindhouse Releasing (folks behind Cannibal Holocaust) announced several years ago they had obtained the rights and were working to bring us a new DVD of the film.  Then…nothing….nothing….nothing….mutterings…nothing….now….something.

Grindhouse Releasing has recently updated their website not only with very cool cover art, but also special features…and A RELEASE DATE!!! The film will be presented in it’s original, uncut widescreen in a new HD transfer.

Special Features:
Rare On Set Interview with Lucio Fulci
Commentary with star Catriona MacColl and the late David Warbeck
Interviews with key cast and crew members
Optional Italian audio plus original mono mix
Lost German pre-credit sequence in full color
Necrophagia music video
Trailers, stills, posters galleries
Filmographies
Notes by Chas Balun

A solid amount of special features, the Fulci interview is the one I want to see the most however. Grindhouse Releasing is also working on a new DVD for Fulci’s Cat in the Brain. But until that time, for all fans of Fulci and Italian horror The Beyond will hit DVD on October 28 and will retail for $24.95.
