KFC Responds to Kentucky Horror Show
We have been following C.L. Gregory’s film The Kentucky Horror Show for quite some time. As you may remember the title was Kentucky Fried Horror Show but to dodge any impending bullets they changed the name and even some of the imagery they used. Well even all that wouldn’t stop the big corportation from trying to stomp out his film.
Today Gregory received a statement that KFC made in regards to his film, “Like any trademark owner, KFC cannot permit others to use its famous mark and imagery in this manner. KFC has no objection to Mr. Gregory’s production of his movie under another name that does not trade off the goodwill that KFC has developed over the course of many years.”
In response Gregory wrote a rather lengthy argument against their statements. Here is just a taste of what he had to say, “For the record, we are NOT using KFC’s famous marks and imagery as KFC has flat out LIED about. The only image that we originally used was a bucket that we felt MIGHT be questionable so we decided to yank that image and replace it with our other brand image - a pale bucket. The other, and only objection that Mr. Maynard quotes that is famous and that they object to is the term “Kentucky Fried”. Are these guys kidding????? Have they even heard of John Landis’s comedy film “Kentucky Fried Movie?” What about PETA??”
I also find it ludicrous that a big corporation would decide to try and stomp out a small indie horror film and not go after John Landis’ Kentucky Fried Movie or PETA who blatantly use the image on purpose to slander the company. Just one look at PETA’s anti-KFC website will tell you that. I’m not sure what is going to happen here but you can bet that Gregory is not letting KFC walk all over him. You can read his full statment at the official website. Be sure to keep it here and we will keep you up to date with what is happening.
