The Goon Movie Is Coming!
Wow.. this is the best news I have heard all year long! As you probably can already tell I am a huge mark for The Goon comic book that was created by Eric Powell. Back in the early days of the comic we even did an interview with Mr. Powell about the potential for a film. Of course back then it was all a dream. But today THR has revealed that a feature length CG-animated film is in the works.
Dark Horse Entertainment, David Fincher and animation house Blur are all teaming up to make it happen. Of course Eric Powell will be writing the script. Dark Horse Entertainment has a first look deal with Universal but they want to develop the project before setting it up at a big studio.
Just in case you have no idea what The Goon is about THR put it best with this short blurb: Created by Eric Powell in 1999, the comic follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and “skunk apes.”
