The Happening Terrifies Fans.. In a Bad Way
Earlier in the week The Happening exploded into theatres and managed to bring in a handy $32million dollars. Comparing that to The Incredible Hulk which brought in $54million thats a great number. Especially if you add to that the fact The Happening was R-Rated which as we know is really bad for box office numbers. This pretty much answered the question I posed to you all… would this be the end of M. Night if the movie tanked? It didnt and that should be the end.. but oh it is not.
Right after it hit theatres we had some really positive reviews submitted by you readers and it looked like Shyamalan had broken his curse… The curse of doing crappy movies that start out awesome and fizzle out like my 1 year old trying to put the air into an air mattress. But it would seem those of you who saw it and hated it were so tramautized it took you some time to stop your hands from shaking so you could review it. It started out with 2 out of 3 reviews on site being good.. which is a great sign but it has taken a decided twist for the worst for M Night and unlike those ‘real critics’ this is horror fans writing reviews.. so his audience and one that needs to be acknowledged.
There are some good reviews from some die hard horror fans who know the genre well like DrBlood and MovieMaven but then you have others who are equally passionate about our genre like 5thdroog ( who reviews damn near every horror movie that comes out ) who clearly hated the movie. Follow the links below to read their complete reviews. The moral here seems to be that horror fans appear to be mixed at best and leaning towards the ‘its crap’ column on the movie.
Which makes you wonder, will it deliver the goods and rack in more money over this coming weekend? Or will all the bad internet buzz be the doom of the movie.. and M. Nights career as a director.
