Wolfen Review

I heard a lot of positive stuff about this film before seeing it, so I knew it wouldn’t be a bad film. One thing I was wrong about was going in thinking it was about werewolves. Turns out the wolves that are involved with the killings are ancient Indian spirits. It sounds pretty silly, but I was surprised to see how well it actually worked. The movie seems like i would be a werewolf film when you watch it, because of the way the victims are killed and in certain scenes they seem werewolf-like, but it is later revealed that they are ancient spirits that were believed by the Indians. The cop seeks some local Indians for answers in hopes of stopping the murders.

Although the movie is almost two-hours long, it kept my interest from the start to the end. I was a little disappointed with the fact the wolves were spirits, but I did like the fact that it was original. That’s always a plus. It was cool to see a lot of familiar faces in this old film. The acting and directing was well done and it was gory in parts thanks to the wolves. Good effects. At one point in the film they cop and a friend have night-vision rifles, thinking they can take out the wolves when they least suspect it. Cool scene. The movie has some good suspense, but no good scares. I would have given the movie a higher-rating, but I was slightly disappointed discovering the wolves were spirits, but then again it made things more interesting and original.

A good original and underrated 80’s film. Don’t let the cover and title fool you into thinking it may be a werewolf film. It’s still good none-the-less. Check this film out.
