Burnt Offerings Review
Checked this movie not knowing much about it and I wasn’t impressed. The plot itself already seems like a rip-off of The Shining, but the fact is that this film was released at least four years before The Shining. Hmmmm… At least with The Shining it was executed well. This one just bored the hell outta me. The story is about a family of three moving into an old gothic mansion to take care of it while the owners are away for the summer. The only catch? They have to also take care of the owner’s grandmother, who never leaves her room. The caretakers are instructed to leave a tray of food in the front of her door when it’s time for her to eat. Things seem fine at first, much like how things usually are at the beginning of a haunted house flick, but over time everyone starts to slowly go insane. No surprise there.
I wanted to like this movie, but I couldn’t. It was just too dull and boring. Nothing much was going on and there wasn’t anything in this film that I hadn’t already seen before countless other times. The only thing I really liked about this was maybe the twist towards the end. It was predictable, but still pretty cool and interesting. There’s no blood or gore from what I can remember, so that was a bit of a downer. No good scares either. Oh well. I would have given the movie a lower-rating, but it had its decent moments, and like I always say - I’ve seen worse. Take my advice though, if you’ve already seen The Shining, then don’t bother with this.
A dull and boring haunted house flick. Had decent moments, but wasn’t anything I hadn’t seen before. Only thing I liked was the twist at the end. Not recommended.
