The Cottage Movie Review
OK, maybe I am just a bit biased but I do love B rate horror flilcks as I find they may not get the jumpyness right but the film will go on to make a true cult classic. Now I did something with this movie that I hate, I built it up in my mind as to what it would be. I was hoping for another Shaun of the Dead, or 28 Weeks Later movie. Boy was I disappointed.
This is a movie going back to the origins of 80’s horror, it is a classic slasher. The only exception is that there is no sex, drugs, or teens. Instead this is place in a remote part ot the British countryside, nice switch from the outback of some southern state with redneck hillbillies. Instead it takes place in a remote cottage not too far from a small sleepy retirement village (stating this as the only people you see other than the main characters appear to be seniors).
The characters in the are two brothers who decide they will with the help of a third person kidnap a fould mouthed chav (trailer trash for the canuks and yanks) and demand a ransom from her father. Things go horribly wrong mostly because they are too inept to be able to do anything.
The movie has some laughs and some slaughter scenes with one being sort of reminescent of either Mortal Kombat or some low budget horror which my brain just cannot register right now.
I like that each of the people who do die in the film are killed with different instruments and that nothing is repeated or rushed for the sake of raising the body count.
The only thing I did not like was the ending which will not be what you are expecting, although I did not stay around for the end of the credit so I may have missed something.
All in all this is a good film, not necessary to see on the big screen but worth the cost to watch the movie and the audience (some people are so jumpy).
