The Psychomanteum Review
This is not your typical everyday average film that will bring forth the same old scenarios- it’s finally something a smidge different. 25 minutes of what exactly- I am unsure of. As you watch you will figure out your own way down this twisted path. I couldn’t come out and give you a paragraph on exactly what this is about because I am totally 100 percent not sure of what the story really was.
Is she hallucinating because she forgot to take her meds? Is she full of hate for her partners in this flick? Is she in an abandoned mental asylum as she runs down those empty halls while each light she goes past fizzles out and leaves darkness behind? I am not totally sure but I do know this I was drawn in by its utter eeriness accompanied by gothic like music and disturbing images.
Would I recommend this as a watch, of course. It is considered an art film and there were hardly any speaking parts but this film didn’t need any. It was all filed under our mental rule that actions (and visions) speak louder than words. Dave Holt created a world where everything is unfamiliar yet has that deja vu feeling that leaves you feeling like maybe you recognize something, but it quickly fades away but you are left in your dark sensory experience.
