Senator Picks Up Splice
Senator Distribution recently nabbed the rights to All the Boys Love Mandy Lane from the Weinsteins. We still have no word on when they plan to release that film but now it looks like they have another film in there stable. Variety reports that they just picked up rights in North America, Germany and Spain to “Splice” from writer-director Vincenzo Natali.
The film, which stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, revolves around two scientists who undertake illegal genetic experiments and create a new species fusing human and animal DNA. As the pair become global celebrities, the consequences of their accomplishment begin to become apparent.
The good thing about this project is that director Natali is a protege of Guillermo del Toro. Knowing that takes a lot of the doubt out of my mind about how the film will turn out. Right now Senator is planning to release Splice sometime in 2009.
