I’ve heard such good things about this movie and was looking forward to seeing it since it was released. I finally got a chance to see what all of the excitement was about it and…well I’m still waiting. It is hard for me with movies like this. I mean I want to like them, but when so many things stand in the way for me to, I can’t help it.

The story surrounds a small town and focuses in on a small group of high school kids. You get to witness how the jock warns the “losers” to not talk to his cheerleader girlfriends. Then we see how one of the friends of those losers is actually dating one of the cheerleaders, but doesn’t get along with her friends so they don’t spend as much time together in social events. Which one just happens to be taking place tonight at a farm a few miles away. The school day was a little different than normal because a student actually attacked and bit a teacher. Then later one of the friends leaves his house just before his brother attacks his dad. Another kid wearing a Ram nes shirt, gets it from his mother when he gets home. Do you see where I’m going with this. Anyway, after these “set up” scenes, we follow the friends as they try and make it out to the farm house, which must surely be swamped with zombies by now, to save the girl. If they do make it out there, what then? Is someone going to save them or is the whole world the same as this isolated little town?

The acting did nothing to hold my interest. I know that isn’t saying a lot being a low budget movie, but this seemed a little worst than normal. A couple of scenes came off okay, but that didn’t make up for the rest of the cast’s failings.

The effects were actually the good part of the movie. It was mostly cheap little gimmicks, but I have to say I began looking more forward to the next one to keep me watching the movie. I liked the jaw scene, even though I could see the latex already in place before hand. It was what it was.

That brings me to this. I get tired of giving movies breaks by saying “for what it was”, but I do understand there are a lot of restraints put on cheaper budgeted films. My problem with this movie was more that it brought nothing to the table. It wasn’t like it was something I hadn’t seen before a hundred times. The plotting for foreshadowing was way too apparent and only made me wonder how soon they were going to capitalize on the formula. If I hadn’t seen so many other zombie movies in recent months maybe I’d give this one a better nod, but I have so I can’t.
