Return to House on Haunted Hill Review
I’ll admit that the only reason I ordered this movie was because of the “choose your own movie” feature on the HD version. I watched the “regular” version last night because I was too tired to pick and choose how everyone could die. For being a sequel to a remake, this movie was decent.
The intro to this film was great. I loved how they tied the opening credits in with the “history behind Hill House”. It was creepy enough for me not to look away. It was almost like a music video in a sense, because the music tied in perfectly and it didn’t constantly show a death scene. The intro definitely made me want to continue watching.
I didn’t care much for the enitre “search for the evil idol” storyline added to this film, or the ending for that matter. i was somewhat dumbfounded with the ending. It was like, ghosts everywhere and bam, it just ends. Nothing spectacular and then you’re left wondering, okay, what just happened? Or at least that’s how I reacted.
I must give credit where credit is due and I give two thumbs up for whoever wrote those death scenes. Some were a bit far-fetched, but hey, how would you have someone die by ghosts that are capable of anything? The death scenes were awesome and just proved to me that you can stretch your imagination just that much further. Not only were the death scenes unlike many I’ve seen before, they were just plain wicked. Again, two thumbs up for the wickedness of revenge killing ghosts!
As far as the storyline goes, I already said that I didn’t buy it and didn’t care for it. It reminded me of something that might appear on Scooby Doo. I just don’t buy storylines of statues and idols having evil powers or making someone become evil. Perhaps if I was to become evil by owning a long lost idol from the Myans, then I might change my mind.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie. It didn’t require hard-core thinking, didn’t over do the gore and certainly satisfid my taste for pushing death to it’s finest. I definitely recommend this to anyone for a little thrill or those that believe in the paranormal (evil laugh)!
